142 posts · Joined 2011. #3 · Feb 9, 2013. I think the choke is not providing enough fuel. When the choke is engaged at 1/3, the bike will idle (cold) right around 1-1200 rpms. Turning it off or turning it on all the way kills the bike. Definitely not too rich.

In your detective work of finding your carburetors problem, consider the (needle valve or float valve) as your starting point. This needle valve meters your fuel entering the carburetor bowl. If it is defective, the bowl will either over flow or not allow enough fuel into the bowl. Some of our customers think it's a jetting problem.

So I had a look in my manual which covers all years and it says the difference between the model years is that the 2008 on models has it going to the "T" connector I mentioned. Then the 1988 -2007 models it goes to the fuel valve. It's called the "fuel valve vacuum hose".
